Heroes

Do you have a hero?

Whenever I got asked that question in school I didn't really know what to say. Are we supposed to be thinking of Greek heroes, the main characters who win battles and who are distantly descended from gods? Are we supposed to think of the typical historical heroes: Gandhi, Lincoln, and Mandela? Were we actually supposed to think about everyday heroes: Our grandparents, school teachers, and mothers? I mean, the word can get confusing. In the dictionary here, there are four different definitions at least.

For this post, I wanted to just go with the simplest definition: a person who is greatly admired.

Stephen Fry. I just greatly admire him. That's all. I guess you could call him my hero, and you wouldn't be wrong. He makes me laugh. He makes me think. He makes me question. He makes me happy.

He's an actor, comedian, writer, presenter, and activist. I just adore him.

His documentary on bi-polar disorder: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive is touching and informative, and everyone should see it.
I also love his documentary Out There. It's so moving. Watch it!

Also this.

So yeah. Hero status. Stephen Fry everyone:)
